Brent finished runner-up and moved into second overall in Stage 3 of the Tour of Alberta.
BMC Racing had four riders in an 18-man breakaway (Bookwalter, Marcus Burghardt, Steve Morabito and Jakub Novak) that formed about 70 kilometers into the 169.8-km race. With their advantage growing to more than five minutes over the peloton, Burghardt attacked 50 kilometers from the finish to first whittle down the group. The final climb, about 10 kilometers later, led to a select six-man group that included Bookwalter and Morabito. A sprint finish between Bookwalter and Rohan Dennis ended with Dennis grabbing the stage victory by a wheel length and Bookwalter finishing second, moving him into second in the overall standings.
